about
A brief and bouncy soundtrack to the wide-eyed, innocent love of 9-year-old kids meeting—and falling in (something resembling) love—where their backyards touch. The chords offer a clever nod to the seventies, enhancing the nostalgia of it all. The only thing it’s missing is a jar of fireflies.
“I Took An Oath” also features original artwork by Allison Moore, an American ex-pat living in England. She’s also responsible for the original painting used on the cover of “This Is The Sound” and Ian’s most recent full-length, “Now We’re Golden”. This single was co-written with writing partner Chris Newkirk and features the prodigious talents of Holler, Wild Rose’s John Mosloskie.

lyrics
LYRICS:
Wear this ring
Send a message
If we get split apart
It’s so easy
To get lost
In these big backyards
I took an oath
To climb the oak
I made a pledge
To break the hedge
And find you
A diamond ring
Will show the way
When it gets dark
A secret code
In every stone
Deciphered in our hearts
I took an oath
To climb the oak
I made a pledge
To break the hedge
And find you
I took an oath
To climb the oak
I made a pledge
To break the hedge
And find you
